My research investigates the fate of contaminants (e.g. nanomaterials, metals, microplastics, nutrients) and their effects on terrestrial biota. This research includes examination of direct effects of contaminants on soil microorganisms, invertebrates (e.g. earthworms), and crop plants as well as potential indirect effects resulting from disruption of agronomically important relationships between plants and soil microorganisms. Recent research has been particularly focused on colloidal/colloid-facilitated transport of nutrients and the partitioning of per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS) during wastewater treatment.
